Our Approach To Consulting - Listening!

Serbin Associates' "golden rule" is to listen intently in order to reveal the wisdom that already resides within nonprofit organizations. We have found this method creates an environment in which participants more accurately hear each other, thus facilitating an improved ability of the agency to problem solve. We find that working with our consulting process allows nonprofit organization staff to embody the "mission" and "values" of their organizations.

Our coaching methodology includes the three "Ls":
  • Listening
  • Listening
  • …. and listening
We also place emphasis on:
  • Exploring the territory
  • Deciding on commitments
  • Going to implementation
  • Evaluating the impact
  • …. And then we listen some more

Why the emphasis on listening? Many times E.D.s have no one to talk to. They can't talk with their board and they can't share some problems with their staff. One-on-one coaching is very helpful in these situations, as well as getting E.D.s together to share wisdom and stories.
